Sponsored by Rite Aid, the mission of Operation Diabetes is to help student pharmacists identify those in the community who have previously been under-diagnosed with diabetes and help those at risk for developing the disease. The operation also works to spread awareness of diabetes, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles through educational events and community outreach.

Harris County and its surrounding areas are medically under-served, and many live with undiagnosed diabetes. Our chapter’s operation performs blood glucose screening for diabetic foot symptoms, and signs of periodontal disease. Educational games, presentations, and one-on-one discussion helps spread community awareness of this disease state and lifestyle modifications to prevent it.

Operation Diabetes Goals is to increase overall awareness of diabetes and the role pharmacists play in the prevention and management of diabetes, to help identify individuals in the community with previously undiagnosed diabetes, and to help identify and educate individuals in the community who are at risk for developing diabetes.
